Klytus Show Notes
Part I of the focus on the 1980 Flash Gordon film. We had about 800 people together in one room, recording a roundtable conversation.
The first 8 minutes is fun to hear, but the true Flash Gordon talk starts at around the 8 minute mark.
Yes, I know now that it’s General Klytus.
The website we talked about.

Night Cj, don’t let the bedbugs bite.
That wasn’t intended as a bad pun comment.
Follow You. Follow Me – Genesis
Stay with me,
My love I hope youll always be
Right here by my side if ever I need you
Oh my love
In your arms,
I feel so safe and so secure
Everyday is such a perfect day to spend
Alone with you
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year
With the dark,
Oh I see so very clearly now
All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now
Fading away
I can say
The night is long but you are here
Close at hand, oh Im better for the smile you give
And while I live
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year there will be
I will follow you will you follow me
All the days and nights that we know will be
I will stay with you will you stay with me
Just one single tear in each passing year…
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalm 23:6

Has anyone else tried to read the new FTC guidelines?
http://www.ftc.gov/os/2009/10/091005endorsementguidesfnnotice.pdf
I’m wondering how this will affect places like epinions.com, but I’m having a bit of an attention issue with reading the paper.
Thanks CJ, Nomad and Amy. I will listen to them sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Happy Tuesday, y’all.
EssBee, do you actually pause there, saying y…all, or are you just writing it pretty like? *poke*
I write prettier than I talk, Nomad. I wish I had a Southern drawl, but alas I have the Southwestern speech pattern I’ve got. People tell me I sound Canadian, but after listening to Bunny on the MMMMMeetup recordings, I now that’s not it.
How are you today, sir?
Depends on -which- southern drawl. South Carolina, no offense to anyone intelligent to be here, but I hate the state and I hate the accent. It just sounds… stupid. Virgina has one of the cutest, most drop dead sexy accents. Tennessee is pretty standard and tends to amplify the character of the speaker.
And if True Blood is any indicator, Lousiana has a cute and stupid accent. Sooookie, I do declare.
I don’t consider Texas southern, but I did hear some excellent drawlin’ the one time I popped out for a visit.
As for Canadian, After listening to Mark (Encaf1) and Mike Plested and the amazing Bunny, I’d have to say they all sound pretty non-accented to me. Nice voices, clear diction, but a kind of “standard” accent.
I, myself, am doing great and exercising my tired and out of date southern drawl. Soookie. LOL
*cough* … intelligent +enough to be here…
Oooh, them’s fightin’ words . . .
Not really! But I do think Charleston is a fantastic city if you can look away from the glaring racial divide in wealth long enough to notice.
For my job, I spend loads of time in the deep South – I’ve logged lots of hours in Louisiana (mostly New Orleans, which is an anomaly in the South, but also New Iberia, Baton Rouge, and Monroe), Savannah, Pensacola, and Moblie. I think folks are just folks, honestly, no matter where you find yourself, but political and religious climates do tend to the more . . . ahem . . . restrictive the further South one travels. Of course, I’ve encountered giant asshats in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and other big, supposedly progressive cities just as often as in BFE Louisiana.
Morning Pan!
Did a morning work out for the first time in a while. I’m frikken exhausted, but it feels good.
Mom comes in tomorrow so doing some house cleaning today. I might even clean my desk. That would be a miracle.
Morning, TEB!
Oh yeah, I guess I better strip the guest bed and put on some clean sheets. That might be a nice thing to do.
Morning EssBee!
Have a super morning at Evil Inc!
Wow, looking back at the comments, Scry called me amazing. I thought only my husband could be the judge of that ;)
The only job I’ve ever been fired from was in SC, down in Charleston, and the fake reason was because I “laughed at a customer” (she made a joke and I laughed) but the real reason was my ponytail and black clothes scared the manager.
Charleston is pretty bad when it comes to how blatant the racial lines are, but drive a bit north to Greenville/Spartanburg and it’s even worse. The white folk live in nice old houses with pillared front porches on clean streets… meanwhile, hop over the ivy covered fence with the barbed wire and you’ll find the colored folk living with their chickens and pigs in little better than shacks. Three shacks to one house. They’ve managed to hide their “problem” behind a facade. I was a young teen when we lived there, so it didn’t really dawn on me what was going on till after we’d left and I started noticing that everyone just acted like people.
Other than SC, I am starting to think that I prefer the simple straight forward confrontation of the South to the stick-em-inna-back of NJ, NY, CT, MA. At least you know when you are in trouble down there. I mean, I cannot imagine the city of Chattanooga fining someone for having foot long grass in their front yard.
Too heavy, eh?
Hi Bunny!
There, a load of laundry is in the washing machine, the vacuum is doing its thing in the living room (its thing includes freaking out the cat).
Now to do some work.
Hey Scry. The board is hopping this morning.
Not too heavy. The racial lines are incredibly distressing particularly in the South. I believe it’s a self-breeding super-virus. All that will come of allowing it to continue is more of the same, over and over and over again. It’s a fucking shame.
Now I am off to Evil for a day of fun. Month-end activities for me. I love that someone with a Master’s Degree in American Literature and Women’s Studies (me) does accruals/deferrals for a $6M business unit. It’s totally typical of the place.
Have a great day, all y’all.
Have a shiny new day at Evil!
One more comment: race is also a huge problem that goes largely unaddressed in pseudo-liberal Boulder County, Colorado as well. It’s just not as easy to see if you’re not looking.
While racial and other issues exist (and trust me you do see them in my hubby’s line of work), I like to think Canada is one of the better countries when it comes to such things.
I just can’t stop this morning, but after this, I am TOTALLY leaving . . .
Bunny, I’d have to challenge you on what you say based on my family (Sly B’s brother and his wife and 3 kids) who live North of you on the Cree reserve in Hobbema. The conditions there are deplorable, and rival reservations in the U.S. in terms of poverty, abuse, lack of services (education, police, clean water), and etc. Other than the native population there, I can’t speak to Canadian race relations.
EssBee, while I admit there are issues, I’m afraid I won’t get into native relations. My mother use to teach on a reserve, and I have Meiti blood in me. I will say there are plus and minus’ on both sides of the argument, but don’t feel this is a proper forum for that kind of a debate.
I wondered what was wrong with my cat. It sounded like he was doing a monster job of scratching in his catbox. And then, five minutes later, he’s doing it again.
Yeah, he’s been closed up in the coat closet for an hour. D’oh.
And because I want to have a positive note: Emoticons for all!
:) ;) :D   :???: :!:
Aww, poor kitty. You are a bad owner Scry! (just kidding ;) )
Ack! Work kicked me out of the system. What was that about?
Of course Scry, my kitty thinks I’m a bad owner too because I have the vacuum going.
Hey! Tis not my fault that he races through any opened door…
Today is the birthday for a friend of mine who I have totally lost contact with. I don’t even know her full name, so it’s kinda hard to use Google-fu to find her. So… bah.
Bunny, does your cat talk to bugs?
My cat is afraid of bugs, mice, vacuums, people… you name it,
She will watch a bug crawl across the floor or fly through the air but if it comes near her, she’ll walk, sometimes run, away.
She once freaked out when she saw a mouse, jumping up and running away when it squeaked.
Huh. I can’t remember any of my other cats giving more than a passing interest in moving bugs. Vex will actively and accurately hunt down bugs and if they are up out of his reach, he’ll warble at them. It’s like he is say, “Fly into my mouth.” And then he eats them.
That’s cute. I picture her doing the Lucy, standing on the table, clutching the drapes, and pointing the “MOUSE!”
That’s not far from the truth, Scry. We live by railroad tracks so, if it’s a particularly cold winter, we will occasionally get a mouse find its way into the house. My cat hates it when that happens (has only occurred three times in the 13+ years living here)
Happiness is a warm kitty on your lap :)
And that’s the downside to my cat. He barely tolerates sitting on the same couch as us. When he was a kitten, he’d sleep with Jade, but now that he’s a big teenager he sleeps by himself. *pout*
Whew, almost forgot to park my car on the street. They’re tearing up the sidewalk in front of my house and I wouldn’t have been able to get it out of the driveway when I went for lunch with my Boo later today.
The only reason I remembered is I heard the garbage truck and I thought it was the city in front of my house. Glad I made it in time.
My cat is a loving cat, but only to me. She tolerates my husband and won’t go near anybody else. But I don’t care, because she loves to lay on me, and that’s all that matters
I think I have to give up now on trying to find my friend. I dug through my old email address and pinged off 4 bad addresses, found and google’d her “real” name and pestered a few mutual friends. No luck.
Ah well.
My work work is done, my laundry is in the dryer, now to clean my desk.
Personally I think that’s going above and beyond, Scry.
I guess so. It’s not like either of us has made the effort to make contact since ’05. Humbug. I dislike growing apart.
I found this while digging around:
http://www.epinions.com/review/Frog_s_Leap_2003_Napa_Valley_Sauvignon_Blanc_Wine/fddk-review-ED9-1378E070-38B7309A-bd1

Well, I have an hour to kill so I think I’ll delve into my new game.
Later!
Back to the water theme for a moment…
I wish I was a fisherman
tumblin’ on the seas
far away from dry land
and its bitter memories
castin’ out my sweet line
with abandonment and love
no ceiling bearin’ down on me
save the starry sky above
with light in my head
with you in my arms…
i wish i was the brakeman
on a hurtlin fevered train
crashin head long into the heartland
like a cannon in the rain
with the feelin of the sleepers
and the burnin of the coal
countin the towns flashin by
and a night that’s full of soul
with light in my head
with you in my arms…
And I know I will be loosened
from the bonds that hold me fast
and the chains all around me
will fall away at last
and on that grand and fateful day
I will take thee in my hand
I will ride on a train
I will be the fisherman
With light in my head
You in my arms…
Fisherman’s Blues — The Waterboys
If it helps ease the sting, I’m paying off a $400 data charge from two months ago from a gap in unlimited coverage caused by ordering a new phone for Jade. Gah. It couldn’t have been more than a few days at that. Double Gah. No, Gah squared.
Hey ditto, g’morning to you.
Wow. Board was busy today. I show up, and everyone leaves. ;)
Scratch that. NS is still here! Hiya!!
What would you call the genre that the Waterboys falls into?
And I -do- know Bainbridge. I just thought that her hit “Mouth” was music for a bubblegum advertisement. …
NS: I guess I’d say the Waterboys fall along the lines of folk rock.
*waves at ditto*
I was going to say that I like her “Under the Water” quite a bit more and then some bad harmonica and silly male vocalist kicked in and my enjoyment fled. Ugh. That was a cruel twist.
Huh. That kind of figures. I was thinking they were a bit folksy and a bit early rock. Haha.
I think… it’s bed time.
I’m sure someone’ll show up and keep the Pan warm. Until then, it’s up to you ditto.
Well Toy Story was as good as ever, wasn’t that impressed with the 3D makover..too subtle at times.
The train carriage I’m travelling stinks of urine..
Eww. That can’t be fun, Van.

I’m already sleeping, but I wantted to ask before I forget (again.)
Is anyone else here going to be doing NaNoWriMo this year? I’m foolishly assuming that Amy will be doing her usual 35000 words in a weekend, but I’m not sure who else has participated in the past.
Besides, can we really trust Alpha?
WashAlpha dies, obviously.Nomad Scry: I may entertain the idea, but I’ve got so little time already. So doubtful. I will forward a link to Lady J though. Hopefully it’ll spur some interest in her.
Wow, that billboard would make for a great social experiment in most of the U.S.
Since both of my underwater lyrical contributions last night were about murder. . . I’d considered posting the lyrics to “Octopus’s Garden” as a cheerier counter. But I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

Had to carry a 50lb weight stand half a block because I couldn’t park in my own driveway. Stupid city.
Put together a punching bag + stand last night. Should be fun, but I’ll need counter-weights.
Boy, you’re gonna carry that weight,
Carry that weight a long time.

Cough!
It took an hour and lots of cursing but I finally got the weight stand put together. Now I’m all hot and sweaty and in badly need of a shower.
Jack, that costume doesn’t show enough skin. She should have had less cloth and more green body paint ;)
Shower Time!
There, all nice and clean. Now to kick back and read for a bit.

Cj!!!!!!!!!!
So we should have a sexy Cthulhu costume contest at the next DeadpanMMMmmm Gathering?
Hi sports fans.
Didn’t have time to read “back” posts, so I have no idea what’s going on.
Just thought I’d say “hi” and that, after driving 1.3 bagazillion miles to Washington D.C. – I spent my 2nd day here finding a tire dealer that carried a replacement for the one I blew out (2 blocks from my hotel) and then figuring out how to find them (in Maryland), driving there and then sitting in their waiting room for 3 hours.
I’m back in my hotel room and 2 Cosmos in the bar have re-adjusted my attitude.
I have yet to meet the President. Have met the homeless … and really good Chinese food.
Sounds interesting, Jack.
Only if the guys compete too ;)
Glad you are OK, JOe.
Could be intriguing.
BTW – one high lite of the trip is the store I saw when I got lost. Better then the fact that they had misspelled Clothing as Cloathing … was the fact that the “C” had falled of their sign.
Yep! They were offering “Discount LOATHING” .
This raises some questions.
( ) “Loathing can be bought?”
( ) What IS the going rate for loathing?
( ) What about “You get what you pay for?” What quality of “Loathing” can you expect for “off the rack”, discount hate? I mean seriously, won’t it be more of a dislike or at best a mild abhorrence?
“Discount Loathing.”
Heh
Hm. jJ
I think I just won the lottery on *New and Improved* Self-Loathing.
Nothing discount about it.
I’m desperately searching for the RMA department.
In D.C., that might not have been an error.
Sorry about the stress, Cj (and Dan).
J0e, there’s an entire Kingdom of Loathing.
OK. Finally caught up, and my day has slowed down, so it’s my turn for water works:
I dream of the ocean and the beautiful skies rolling out to sea
I dream of the ocean and the rip of the tide west of Finnistair
The weight of the water pouring down, holding on to me
I dream of the ocean, rising, rising
I dream of the ocean – through the night the ghosts are sailing still
The James Caird steering east by north-east through the wild Atlantic swell
The men lie soaked and cold beneath the sail on a bed of ballast stone
They hear the boss cry out – I can see them now, the snow-capped peaks of land
But it was the ocean, rising, rising
A forty foot wall of water crashing down
They held their breath and prayed to God in the hour of death
To save them
From the ocean, rising, rising
I dream of the ocean, rising, rising
And so the years they flow and journey’s end
The old crew sailed south again
And they buried the boss by the melting snow
In the summer winds on the island
And now the ice it cracks and falls away, driven in the storms
And I’ll be there – where the sky touches the sea
At the edge of the ocean where the beautiful world fades into the grey
I dream of the ocean, rising, rising
I dream of the ocean, rising, rising

Lejon: I’d like your input. Macross is, to me, the only Robotech series worth watching. When the Masters were brought in with the Cyclones and whatnot, it really took a dive. And don’t get me started with what followed. Mechs fighting with huge speakers? Seriously? Anyhow, Netflix just presented me with The Shadow Chronicles. Have you seen this? And is it one of those deals where it’s mostly cartoon with computer-rendered mechs? I hate that. Yeah.

Thanks for the tip, J. Null!
That’s my next tattoo.
J0e: Have a good time in DC! Tee lives in the area; maybe you can hang out. :-)
Jack: You’re quite welcome.
So, yeah. I hate to bring my grief to the pan, but sometimes I just feel like I have nobody to talk to… So my grief for today…
I’m under some stress, but I have to keep my chin up and be supportive of others around me whom I love. That’s no problem. The pushing down of my angsty feelings on the other hand causes my body to go into rejection mode.
Soo… I haven’t been able to keep any food down today and I have a lovely stabbing pain from my lower neck up to my right eye. I have a hotpad all up on my face and neck right now providing enough relief to be up and about for now, but I really need a hot bath… for about 48 hours.
The water only stays hot for like 20 minutes though. How irritating is that?
Damn stupid water.

Jack’s cthulhu: Kinda cute/cool, kinda footey-pajama/embarrasing.
Mr. Nul’s safety aware: The phishers are getting better. I used to be able to tell from just the header info, but I’ve had a few recently that I actually opened before I realized it was a sham. I’d hate to think what non-paranoid people are going through.

So, yeah. I talked with my doctor about my stress/anxiety and the interesting thing he told me was that I need to get more sleep. Hmm. That was an interesting suggestion.
KISS is performing on Late Night with David Letterman right now.
Morning Pan, hope things get better for you soon Cj, I’m off home today.
Been a nice break, and things went way better than I ever expected, still in a bit of a daze about that.
Time to finish off packing.
Ah, geez.

More sleep? Interesting concept. I do hope that you’re asleep as I type this, Cj. Feel better.
And yeah, Nomad makes a damned fine addition to our little group here.
Van, I meant to buy you a drink to congratulate you on your happy times!
Goodnight mraz.
Bloody hell, my cheeks are on fire.
Good thing J0e’s not here now, he’d have a field day with a comment like that.
Crap, I am flustered. I meant nipple. Nipple, not comment. Bad Scry.
Here is your good morning video for Wednesday the 7th of October:

Meow = Nej.
Just finished listening to this episode (is there a Pan name for the episodes?) for the second time and laughed just as hard as I did the first time. Yall sounded like you were having an utter blast at the DeadpanMmmmeetup. *mildly jealous*
Good morning!
I share the Nomad love.
Van, YES!
Cj, HUGS. It’s great to take care of everyone, but you can’t do that well if you don’t also take care of yourself, girl.
It’s humpday. I’m watching a LOST episode before going to Evil this morning (mid-way through Season 4 now), working my day, and then getting a tattoo at 6. Yippee!!
Morning Pan!
I pick up my mom from the airport this afternoon. Oh Joy.
This weekend is a long weekend. It’s Canada’s Thanksgiving.
I guess I better go and put sheets on the guest bed
My mom’s coming to visit this weekend too, TEB.
Feeling your pain,
EssBee
My hubby said I should be nice this weekend. I told him I’d be the model child. His reply: “Don’t be phony, just be nice.”
I don’t think that was very nice.
Just out of curiosity, EssBee, is it too early in the morning for you? You signed your post :)
So a friend of my daughter proposed to his boyfriend this week. It was actually quite sweet. They booked a romantic holiday to Tofino (http://www.tofino-bc.com/) (been there, very beautiful). They were doing the moonlight walk along the beach type of thing when he pulled out the ring.
Very romantic
My WP board just turned all white again. That’s kind of weird.
TEB,
Too early?
EssBee
Well, I guess I better move my car before the city comes and blocks my driveway again.
My hubby was trying to convince me we needed one on these:
http://www.geekchichq.com/Co_Store/The_Showroom/The_Sultan/The_Sultan.html
While I admit it’s really cool, for nine grand he can keep dreaming.
(on a serious note, it is a really cool gaming table)
If it’s still dark, it’s too early as far as I’m concerned, EssBee
I went old school yesterday and actually bought a physical music CD. None of the i-tunes downloading for me :)
NS: No, there’s no Pan name for the episodes. The Deadpan Mmmmeetup was, indeed, a blast. :-)
So fun we should do it again
