No matter how aggressively he postures with his torpedoes, he’ll still always be the sub.
Today’s Deadpan Consumer alert -
So my sister gives my parents one of those “Single cup, instant, gourmet coffee makers”. I am not sure that this
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B002MSJFKO/jaybrewernet-20
is the exact model but it will give you the idea.
Anyway, because my dad is an “interested” sort of guy … he decides to read the manual. He discovers that they recommend you put this thing on it’s own electrical circuit due to the power requirements. !?!
Apparently, in order to give you coffee at the push of a button … it must keep the water constantly heated and ready to brew.
This makes my dad REALLY want to know how much power it consumes. It’s not printed in the manual so he calls the company and they tell him it uses 1500 Watts of power. Continuously. Imagine turning on 15 100watt bulbs and leaving them on forever.
My dad is astounded. They explain to him that their is a way to program it so it won’t keep the water constantly heated … but they highly recommend just leaving it on.
There you have it, just about THE most energy inefficient way to get ONE cup of coffee. I’m surprised they haven’t come up with a model that runs on baby seal whiskers.
So … if you are thinking of getting one of these or already have one, you might just want to keep it unplugged when not in use.
Meanwhile, back on board the S.S. Innuendo …
Well, I think I’m going to brave the brrr and head to the mall.
The post office calleths.
Joe: This is my favorite coffee maker.
http://www.amazon.com/AeroPress-Coffee-and-Espresso-Maker/dp/B000GXZ2GS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1260205726&sr=1-1
So, a small sub could be called the S.S. Minnow?
“Hey, ‘lil buddy.”
My favourite coffee maker sleeps in bed next to me and keeps me warm ;)
Ok, I’m really leaving now.
Justa J0e. I have one of these by keurig and we love it but i know my power bill didn’t go up by $108/month i think it actually went down because we where not using a hot pad to keep coffee warm all the time. That sounds like bad design. the one I have doesn’t keep the tank warm and it looks like this one might.
I’ve heard of some people who average close to $40/day at Starbucks(!), so that’d still save cash for some individual households – - although those folks would then be denied the pleasure saying “venti-mocha-frap-lite-with-whip-and-a-double-shot” while ordering.
Jack, that would make me feel silly. those people have there own weird language. I doubt they speak Innuendo. thus they are no fun.
wow that a jump “you like starbucks” to “your know fun’

I just though of a sub innuendo it might not even be appropriate for deadpan.
Go for it reaper, no blushing violets here.
Innuendo inappropriate for Deadpan?? Someone call Justa J0e.
should he be here for this :)
it gave me a laugh…
I have returned and I have four things to say about my trip…
Yah to winter snow tires
Boo to people who think they can drive like madmen in the snow and the ice.
WFT to twenty-something guys who think they are too macho to wear a coat in -20 weather
And who the hell, during the Christmas rush, decides it’s ok to only have one person on staff at the post office? The girl was also really, really grumpy, but I’m giving her that one because I would be grumpy too if I was alone during this time of year.
justa J0e: Thanks for the heads-up. We unplug just about everything we can when not in use. The collective drain adds up to decent $$$ over the course of a year.
I looked up the specs for my coffee maker and it looks like if mine is on all the time and we use it for 3 cups a day this cost is around $53/year. I’m not really sure how that compares to a standard coffee pot
More innuendos: Subs don’t like to be in dry dock.
Bunny, I haven’t warn a winter coat in about 4 years but I do wear layers, Shirt, sweater, hooded sweat shirt and also flannel lined pants when it is really cold. I’m also one of those people who have a hat on if it gets under 50F and gloves if it is under 35F. when it is 20 below i might even add a extra sweatshirt and flannel. I look like the stay puff marshmallow man but i’m warm. my likes to make fun of me when I dress like this.
We all live in the yellow submarine?
well here goes nothing:
more Joey Sally conversation theater:
Joey: Maybe next we should try the moon pool…
reaper, while I admit this guy did at least have long sleeves, there is no you you could convince me he had any other layer on than the shirt.
bunny, that is just stupid. after it hits the upper 40′s F I don’t leave with out at least a thick sweater. My wife was picking on me last night because i put on my sweatshirt hat and gloves to plug in the Christmas lights. to do this i had to go out the door and turn around.
in the last post about this “my like” should be “my wife likes”
I feel less guilty for for filling up the kettle now.
Oh look, the November Locus finally showed up in the mail

Re: High Power Coffee.
My father is the practical type who would wonder why you couldn’t just make a full pot-o-coffee in the morning and then re-warm, one cup at a time, in the microwave oven. I’m sure that IS more energy efficient but … probably not much more than plugging in his new coffee maker 5 minutes before he wants a cup and then promptly removing the power.
Re: Sub humorous
Hard to port !
Subway, eat fresh?
I don’t know if you in the US have it, but we actually have a Subway competitor called… wait for it… Mr. Sub
Do you hear sonar noises as you walk past?
Nope, Van. But right now their marketing push is for “the big classic”
I think it’s for assorted cold cuts
Bow chicka bow bow
That is all.
So, to sum up (because if I don’t someone else will), Mr. Sup is pushing a big classic of assorted meats
(sometimes reality is better than fiction :) )
Mr. Sup = mr. Sub
kind if makes it sound better ;)
Herrro Pan.
CP. My 5 HOUR MIX from Saturday. Anyone interested in downloading all 540 megs of musical goodness??
Is Mr. Sub a bottom?
JfS –
Lo Pan is down.
Also, Mr. Sub definitely isnt not a bottom.
This conversation makes the local Cousin’s Subs chain extremely creepy.
There is also a local sub shop here called “Half Fast Subs” (EssBee knows I’m sure) which I shall now always look at not the same.
Its all joyous.
Jeremy – - definitely. I hope the Saturday night gig was a success.
Sub-traction?
JFS, if you link it, we will come.
And youll be glad we did

Sounds like Sally’s opening her piers to allow any big-masted ship to dock, leaving Joey with nothing but his own tugboat.
That’s going to disappoint the ladies Lo Pan.
RE: Eggnog with brandy fixing anything –
Please try rum with Eggnog. Trussst meee…
RE: Having more free money -
JØ: Where did you get yours, and how can we get some?
A thought regarding Starship Troopers: I’ve always felt that you should go to this movie with the impression that “this is not going to be anything like the book”. If you do, you usually like it. In fact, to that end, I’m thinkgin I’m going to start Alt_Titling movies with the names they should be given, instead of the good fiction they’re ruining by being made
i.e. Starship Troopers = Nazis vs Giant Bugs
I Robot = Wil Smith vs Robots
I Am Legend = Wil Smith vs CHUDs
And Best Wishes to Mama EssBee

CW: Saturday Night Live — ha ha: Tiger Woods hit a tree and a bunch of ladies fell out.
Lo Pan, love those Half Fast Subs!
Mom’s surgery went well today. We are in the deep freeze here, back home now. I’ll go help take care of her when they release her from the hospital (probably Friday). Thanks for the well wishes!
Cj, how’s the knee?
Thanks for the good news, EssBee.
Glad to hear it EssBee!
BTW – If there ARE any members of “The Media”â„¢ monitering this forum, I really don’t give a hoot about Tiger Woods and his private life.
Yes, I’m sorry that he’s actually human and has to struggle with all that goes along with that like the rest of us do and I wish him and his family the best with all that but otherwise … I really don’t give a crap.
If you can pull your reporters off that for a few minutes… I’d really like to know more details about the whole healthcare thing.

Sally – “It looks like a man’s penis … only smaller.”

As for my knee – I have a doctor appointment Friday morning and apparently Urgent Care has my “results” which I didn’t know I was waiting for, but they left a message. I have to call them in the morning and find out what they have to say.
Also – Dan and I just finished watching Brüno.
üm.
Lejon: I tried adding some rum to my eggnog once. I guess I added too much, because then it was like milk with rum. Which was okay, I guess.
Damn you, whoeverpostedthelinktodailycostume!!!
Rum good.

Not trying to steal Lo Pan’s thunder (especially since he looks so much like Raiden), but I too have a Star Trek video to share:

Riker’s look is priceless.
Goodnight, reaper at the bus stop.
Both of the Star Trek videos were hilarious!

Morning pan, the alarm clock had a lucky escape this morning…
Nooooo! Kill it, Van, take it and destroy it with extreme killing.
Good to hear your mom came through OK, EssBee. Wishes for a quick recovery.
Where do they keep the nuclear wessels?
Hopefully, very far away from the unclear weasels.
Good morning, everyone!
Lo Pan: that was awesome I nearly had tea coming out of my nose when that the “whole in your bag” part
Morning Pan!
No working out for the bunny this morning. Visited my daughter yesterday and had a major allergic reaction to her cat Besides the fun I went through yesterday, I woke up this morning with my eyes basically glued shut.
Has a long hot shower and steamed them open, took out my contacts and am now in my glasses trying very hard not to rub my eyes.
Staring at spreadsheets today will be fun.
Glad things are better for your mom, EssBee.
Hope things get better with your knee, Cj
*hugs* for all who need or want them.
Jack, that was pretty nice to. Riker’s creepy eyes are something else.
Oh, a piece of spam mail I can get into. The subject line said “wishing you a warm winter”. Didn’t open it (obviously) but at least it was more on topic that wanting to help me enlarge organs I don’t possess.
Hot steamy bunny…
I’ll be in my bunk…
Joey: me too…
…
…
Sally: Hay get back here
Wet rabbits look pretty straggly.
ohhh, an LLAP is up.
Dan, ST holodeck would be porn more than anything else ;)
TEB – You slept with your contacts in?
NS, I have the type of contacts that I put in at the beginning of the month and don’t take out again until the end of the month, when I put in a new set. They are wonderful.
Stopping my listening of LLAP (approx 15 minutes left).
Going to give my eyes a rest for about an hour (not tired, just sore eyes).
Back in a bit.
TEB – That’s pretty cool. I’ve got the cheapy disposables that are supposed to last a week. I take ‘em out after about 12 hours though. Much longer and they start to stick to my eyeball. *shivers*
I have gas permeable contacts. I can’t sleep with mine in. They just bother me to much by the end of the day. But on the other hand I have had the same pair since I was in High school.
Re: Eggnog and x: I’m used to having it with rum. Every year we drink eggnog and rum on Xmas eve at work. Yeah, it’s a good workday. Anyhow, it’s nice with the brandy, esp. since it’s coffee-flavored. It’s a nice, smooth taste.
At my own version of Evil Inc. My manager knows nothing about IT he was in engineering as a lackey before than became involved our upgrade to SAP now that is involved in the main accounting/do everything thing system he replaced our old manager who was laid off. The sister of his manager asked him to fix a problem. He didn’t just start understanding IT problems because his tilde changed. He coordinates SAP issues and does our paper work thats it.
CP: LLAP 129
at 8 minutes in starts podcast gold. I’m getting funny looks because I was laughing so hard.
I have returned. For those who wondered, of course I fell asleep. What else are you going to do when you keep your eyes closed for an hour.
Dan, when I was a kid I read a short story collection called Nightmares and Geezenstacks. There’s a story in there similar to what you are describing. I quite enjoyed it.
There was also a story from the pawn’s point of view during a chess match. I remember liking that story a lot, too.
What happens when they run out of episodes?
Sorry, Van. I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
Van – They are currently on year 2 of TNG… It will be a long time before they run out of episodes… then you have DS9 and Voyager and Enterprise…
Then the movies…
Oh yeah don’t forget TJ Hooker…
Episodes of “In Search Of …”
Later we have Quantum Leap…
Van, if they jump to the other series the total is 726 according to Wikipedia so it might take a while till they have to worry about that.
If anybody’s interested… it’s snowing right now here in adanaC
They are times when ignorance is not bliss.
Oh, I understand. LLAP.
Wolf gets bonus points for being quick on the uptake.
TEB, were you being backwards in coming forward on the weather front?
Quantum Leap is one of my favorite show because it is a sf kinda show my wife will watch.
That’s right, Van. I approached the front, backwards :)
When I was in school, there was a play about the founding of the country, Adanac. All the towns, provinces, etc were basically CDN lands spelled backwards. I don’t remember much about the play but, for some reason, the land of Adanac stuck with me. The mind is funny that way.

CP : Regenis 4 Chronicles (Book10): Chapter 13 – Suspicious
pretty good book
I could do this all day
Joey: That’s what she said
Sally: Like hell she did. I would have to allow other to dock anyway…
Wibble.
Ack! I went on line to do some banking. Someone must have messed up. The entire site is in French and you can’t get out of it.
It’s snowing here too, TEB. And effing FRIGID. I am already sick of driving in this crap and it’s only December 8th! I really should move to Arizona or California. Oooh, or New Orleans!
You wibble, Van, I’ll wobble ;)
Moving someplace really warm is not much of an option for me, EssBee. I suppose I could move to Victoria, but then I’d be really close to the parental units. Hubby’s ok, but mine…
I’ve changed my mind. Can I wiggle instead?
We only have 3 inch of snow so far but the forecast says 10-14 more to come over night and in to the afternoon. I have to get out of here. I hate snow.
I love snow, and cold weather, but I really dislike driving in it. I also dread shoveling now that my shoulder is making me seem like an old person.
Snow and cold are four letter words not to be said in polite company
Sacre bleu, moi looneys! merde!
LLAP can also cover the animated series, the different web series, the many Star Trek documentaries….
What the hell did you just call me, Jack Mangan?
CDN dollar coins are called Loonies EssBee, so I think Jack was actually insulting me
BTW, whatever the problem was with the bank website, they seemed to have fixed it. Was able to go on line and pay my bills – not sure if that’s really a good thing.
Goooooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning Deadpan!
We are expected to get anywhere from 3″ to 10″ of snow. :(
You know you aren’t into “Flash Forward” when you haven’t watched it in weeks and you don’t miss it.
10 inches of snow?? Wow, even the innuendo truck would have trouble driving under those conditions. I hope it doesn’t get that bad, ditto.
We got a dusting over the weekend and are supposed to get 2-5 tomorrow. We’ll see. If my joints are any indicator it’ll… be moderately miserable.
2 years till I hit my expiration date.
Maybe I misheard, but I think the answering machine just recorded a prerecorded sports star encouraging us to go vote for somebody to take Kennedy’s spot because they (I didn’t catch the name) will bring lots of (something) to the state.
1. Having a prerecorded exortation is lable to make me go the other way.
2. I hate professional sports. So, that is not helping either.
3. Anyone claiming to bring business to Massachusetts is talking about Boston and couldn’t give a rat’s arse about my side of the state. In fact, they are probably slobberig themselves trying to figure out how steal money from us. (We don’t have any left after the tunnel debacle.)
I think I should be sleeping.
I don’t suppose a good, hearty,
THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID
would help?
Nomad Scry: I’ve heard anywhere from 2 to 6″. By now they may be saying 7′.
If you get 7′ JN I would recommend building snow tunnels and a snow fort. Those are fun :)
snow, snow, snow!
We have about 3 new inches of snow this morning on top of the 6 inches we had the past 2 days. It appears to be quitting now. I hope they can get the roads cleared this afternoon!
