Unshow L
Greasy Nipples:
(dictionary.com) – “The term ‘Greasy Nipples’ refers to the hundreds/thousands of comments left on each episode. The humorous moniker came about in the early days of the show, when Jack would randomly choose comments from the most recent episode and read them onpod. After a pre-determined amount of time, the winner would win a free “Greasy Spoon” meal with Jack at a restaurant of Jack’s choosing (often Denny’s. . . yeah. . . ). At one point in time, Jack recognized that he repeated the word ‘comments’ excessively while describing the game, and thus decided to mix it up, using silly words in place of ‘comments’, such as ‘nipples’, ‘ernest borgnines’, ‘cyborgs’, etc. The term ‘nipples’ seemed to be the funniest, and thus, the segment was renamed ‘Greasy Nipples’.”

Reap, it’s not! LOST is this Sunday; Memorial day is on the 31st.
Sorry, young man.
Danmit. I need a calendar that does a better job of combining the last few days of the month. and I guess I should also keep up on my Lost podcasts.
I listed to about 3 hours of podcasts saying one more episode till the end.
Went to the mall and looked at the Sony reader. I didn’t buy it yet. Thinking about it for an hour or so before I make a decision. Yes it’s pretty, compact and has a touch screen, but it has one thing I’m not sure if I could get use to. When you do anything (i.e. turn the page, go to options, choose a book, etc), the screen will flash negative color and switch. It’s a fairly quick change, but it still flashes. I can’t decide if this would annoy me when reading. (it could also be it bugs me because I have a stupid headache, again) I definitely don’t want a Kindle, I like being able to purchase books anywhere I want, not just Amazon. I decided I’m not married to the touch screen. Like I said, will think about it until after lunch, then make a decision. Maybe I’ll look at their smaller version since I don’t need touch screen, it just doesn’t allow for pics nor has a dictionary (which I don’t use when reading a real book so probably not a big deal). Think, think, think…
reaper, we have a long weekend this week as well. It’s Victoria day here in Canada on Monday. (we celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday, go figure) Hubby is happy because he’s getting Friday off as well. Four day weekend, woo hoo!

My mother-in-law wants a e-reader I just don’t know what one to get. The only one I have ruled out so far is the Kindle
I buy fucking books.
When we say “e-reader”, are we talking Mr. Bunny’s 6″? Or are we really talking about reading?
Ah, my favorite genre.
Me too, Lo. I also buy fantasy and scifi books. And sometimes non-fiction books and comic books.
Jinx, Rhettro.
Wait…. I fucking buy books…
yes… yes much better. heh
I have embiggened this via the Bad Astronomy blog:

Lo Pan, I buy books too, but the problem is, I don’t get rid of books. We have made half our basement into a library but, we only have a finite amount of space, which we’re running out of.
Hubby has switched to strictly e-books and I’m not looking at doing the same. Takes less space.
Off again!
Fucking I buy books!
I buy books fucking!
You should make fucking space.
*standing ovation*
Ok, I had way too many comma’s in that last post. Remove a few at your discretion.
Now I’m really leaving.
Cj: Maleficent is magnificent, but I think the artist got confused, ’cause that’s Snow White’s step-mother’s mirror
There’s always the classic Zombie Nazi film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081027/
TEB: Meesh has a Sony Touch which she likes very much. Michael A. Stackpole also has mentioned that he has the Sony as well, and he’s happy with it.
I’ve been researching hand-held computing devices that aren’t Apple products, and I ran across this: http://www.zii.com/
Well at least you’ll be able to play SNES games on it LJ…
But I’ve been there with the GP32, limited or no commercial development, and problems getting hardware fixed.
Speaking of books, I’m finally into the latest Dresden Files novel, Changes. Whoo boy.
We are considering the kobo. Borders will soon be carrying them and, from what I’ve heard, they are pretty good.
And speaking of zombie flicks, we watched [REC] last night, which is the Spanish original version of Quarantine. While I’ve never seen the US remake, I’ve heard that it’s terrible. [REC] was really good – - the last half hour is just chock full of craziness.
Yknow what else is good? Cheap paperbacks…
Quarantine = poo
Yknow what else is cheap? 7-11 Big Gulp Ice Teas. Love those things.
Books
Quaranteen for me was like Cloverfield, minus the big monster and budget. An okay, if somewhat predictable flick that rehashed a lot of old ideas. Meh.
for the paper book lovers:
http://www.thinkgeek.com/homeoffice/supplies/cc9b/?cpg=wnrdf
I like paper backs.
Van: What gets me about the Zii, is that it was developed by Creative Labs… I’m getting the impression that they went to a lot of effort to develop the hardware and some basic applications that anyone might want, and they’re tossing it out to anyone willing to write code. The current price of the developer kit which comes with a device is in iTouch price range.
I’m trying to decide if I want to be adventurous or not.
I don’t read enough to justify the purchase of an e-reader. However, because of attending my son’s chess competitions, I have started reading fiction again. Finished the third book of the Riverworld series (The Dark Design). Considering the brillience of the first two books I think aliens stole Farmer’s mind after that because it was pretty bad. Then I decided to go back to the Forgotten Realms series of Drizzt Do Urden books. Finished “Passage to Dawn” – pretty good, “The Silent Blade” – excellent, and I’m almost done with “Spine of the World” – kind of a downer so far. Before I get to the “Hunter Blades” books, I’ll probably go back to the “Witch King” books first.
To quote my friend who sent this to me:
I think I threw up a little in my mouth

reaper: Love that book mark.
Love books too. We have thousands in my house. Every year, we go through our collection and sell off what we don’t want to keep. The money goes to charity, ACS to be specific.
We’ve even boxed up some books that we just can’t part with.
LOL. From Boing Boing:
Biebians = lesbians who resemble Justin Bieber
nice!
I’ve been using Alkido on my droid a lot lately. There are tones of books in the public domain that I’ve always wanted to read. So, I am having fun reading some of that over my lunch hours.
I much prefer my books, but I can see the appeal for having an ereader when you travel: you can bring more books and they don’t get damaged. That last part is a big deal for me. I’ve got paperbacks that are over 20 years old. I’ve read them and they still look like new.
Not approved, Lejon. No.
Made the commitment. Got the bigger Sony e-reader. Let’s face it, we all knew I would
CP: Night — Zola Jesus
ditto, that’s so foreign to me. I beat my books up, and always get lectured for it. I want to be more like you!
TEB: So Size DOES matter…
I’m holding out for the Sony e-reader that does 3d. I want the text to look like it’s floating an inch above its surface.
ditto, if you go to the Baen website they often have quite a number of free e-books
http://www.baen.com/library/
EssBee: Hey, my official stance on the Mouse is: I HATE the Mouse
Lejon, I’m with you re: the mouse.
Lejon, also, of COURSE size matters.
EssBee: Then I’m going to be just fine.
I just had a feeling about that, Lejon.
TEB: Thx. Like I need *more* to read. ;)
Size *always* matters. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Lejon: That post is brilliant and terrifying all at once.
CP: The Box — Holly McNarland
Just got a book for my Sony reader from the Kobo website. Turns out they are compatible and it was waaaay too easy to add it to the reader.
I haven’t even started a book on it and I’m alreadly liking this site.
site = product

Actually to be honest, most consumers don’t give a fuck anyway, out of sight out of mind.
It’s why it’s not going to end well….
Wow Van, that story is pretty awful – - but I suppose it would have been naive to claim that we had no idea of this possibility. It’s not like we all thought little iFairies were planting iSeeds in the magic iForest to grow all of that iCrap.
I know what I said.
I agree with Jack. On the awful part. Ugh.
I watched Gentlemen Broncos last night (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1161418/). Apart from trying too hard to be like Napoleon Dynamite, the movie was pretty enjoyable. Nothing fantastic, but it had some hysterical moments and ended well (the ending can often make or break a movie). I also enjoyed seeing Jemaine Clement outside of Flight of the Conchords.
Side note: I hate when a synopsis gets the movie wrong. I mean it’s only 1 sentence how much were they really paying attention:
IMDB synopsis: A teenager attends a fantasy writers’ convention where he discovers his idea has been stolen by an established novelist.
Actual synopsis: A teenager attends a (generic) writers’ convention where his entire SCIENCE FICTION novel is stolen by an established novelist (the entire piece of work [not just the idea] is stolen at the convention, the discovery doesn’t come until much later).
CW: From Dusk Til Dawn
