Noooooomad Scryyyy!
Arguing that a story is or is not scifi because of the meta story misses the point. It’s like the people who argue that Die Hard is not a Christmas movie because it could have been set at any time of the year. Sure, this story about clones could have been a story about middle-aged Venezuelan chimney sweeps, but it isn’t. It’s about human clones. Someday when human clones are part of the everyday world, then a new story about them might not be scifi. But for now, while they are theoretically possible but not functionally feasible, human clones are scifi.
And if the science is too far off, guess what? It doesn’t magically lose its genre influence. No, instead, it magically becomes fantasy instead.
So there. :p
LoTroPanIte!
And I’ll form the head.
Bew bew bew!
Did you all know that Metropolis isnt sci fi? Its MetaFi SciFact Fi Sci Fi.
I’m going to attempt to bore myself to sleep, since the laying in bed reading Deadpan links trick just isn’t working right now.
Actually, it’s the muscles screaming at me that is keeping me up. Stupid heavy snow.
“Kazuo Ishiguro’s unsettling story of a community of clones…”
How is this not “The Island”? (which of course, was ALSO not science fiction) ?
“Stupid heavy snow.”
Most people we’re unaware of the NAZI’s efforts in “Heavy Snow” research during WWII.
Or that they came back to life in Dead Snow
Lois Mcmaster Bujold has being doing the clone harvesting for years in her series of books.
Overheard mumbling from the plumber working on my leaking issue:
“I’ve never seen one that small before!”
“it magically becomes fantasy”
Finally caught up on comments.
