They’re talking about the heat in Arizona on the news. My husband’s freaking out
He’s not getting mixed up with the Los Alamos fire?
heading that way ——->
Goodnight :……:
Hail, hail, rock’n roll….
Happy 4th of July everyone.
Happy holiday to all you Americans. Try not to lose any fingers when you set off your firecrackers.
Alas little danger of that around my parts. Most counties in Texas have a fireworks ban this year due to the extreme drought we’re having.
Ok Deadpan iPad owners, recently got dual pack fling:
http://tenonedesign.com/fling.php
For games that use a virtual dpad or twin stick shooters (like Geometry Wars Touch), this just makes the playing experience a whole lot better.
If I’ve already posted about this..apologies.
A decent use for coffee at last:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/04/caffenol-turns-folgers-into-diy-film-developer-decaf-wont-do/
see I’d call that the only good use for folgers coffee
*sips coffee*

Last one for the day, some cancelled 60′s scifi shows..the puppet one makes Stingray look like high art:

This is my cool link to share. I do hope everyone enjoys their holiday (where applicable)!

CW: True Blood S4E2
Well, I lost the battle and will have to switch over to a larger suitcase. I blame Jack since his gift takes up half the space in my smaller suitcase.
It’s a mini hammond organ isn’t it?
Naw. It’s a blue white… or is it a white blue? I never could get these things straight.
I you really want to know, drop me a line and I’ll tell you, otherwise you can wait until Jack gets it and decides if he wants to share.
A Beluga whale?
When hubby gets home I guess I’ll have to get him to do something about the spider crawling on the wall.
He went out to get paperclips. He said mine were too “festive”. Just because they’re all colourful with stripes and patterns on them doesn’t make them festive
Actually, unless your looking for some sort of “humane” solution to your arachnid problem … may I recommend getting out your vacuum cleaner and using the longest extension attachment tool it has.
Your spider problem will be sucked away whilst keeping it outside of your “personal space”.
The new Torchwood is looking good, looking forward to the first episode of the new season.
The first episode is on when I’m in Arizona so I’ll have to wait until I get home and watch it off the DVR
We’re actually a little confused on how the local station is advertising it. They are making a big deal on how it will be in HD, but the channel that shows it isn’t an HD channel. It will be interesting.
D’oh!
This is my cool link to share:

And – aww, Bunny, thank you :) I’m not worthy!
For some reason … I am really okay with this -

Off to brave the fireworks crowds. First time with my kids since 2005. Have a good, safe one, everyone.
This will be the day long remembered as the day I finished painting the old house. Not quite independence, but a major milestone.
Now off to relax and finish watching “Moon” again.
CP: Welcome to Lunar Industries – Moon soundtrack
fyi – By God, I love Amazon.
FFyi – I’m also a bit buzzed
That is all…for now.
Geeks with money:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14016511
That is an excellent film, Ed. We watched Cars 2 at the drive-in theater and also had near-front-row seats for Tempe and Phoenix’s fireworks displays.
Good thing too, because the movie was beyond awful.
What did you kids think? My mom took our to see it while she was visiting, so I’ve not had a chance to actually see it myself yet. My kids enjoyed it, at least.
Goodnight :Sounds of Silence:
And now, a bit of awesome in the morning:
http://www.simplimg.com/product_images/8H9S35AXCYwEmO5.jpg
Though, if you car, the two cars were not actually together in space & time.
We just watched an old S2 episode of Top Gear last night that had a race between Darth Vader, Ming The Merciless, a Klingon, A Dalek, and a Cyberman. It was very strange
Hope you Phoenix people are hanging tough – I cannot imagine!
Jack, Sly B and I listened to Night’s Plutonian Shore on the drive home yesterday – nice! OSM, FTW! We really enjoyed it!
Huh. My kids loved Cars 2, Jack. You really hated it that much?
Morning Pan
Took three spoonfuls of cereal before I realized the milk was off. Now my tummy’s all jumpy.
So apparently Star Trek is available on NetFlix. Not in Canada. Our NetFlix gets a lot of British shows, which is great, we love them, but has a sad lack of most anything else.
We were able to order the discs through Netflix before. Nearly all of the series (minus Deep Space Nine) are now available for instant watch. I like that because I can usually fit in tv episodes better through instant watch than waiting arond for a disc with 3 or 4 episodes on it, then rushing through those episodes so I can sit around and wait for more.
Oh yeah… 2 days.
A story, for those who may or may not be getting special gourmet chocolate from me:
Last year, Bernard Callebeaut the company when into receivership. A different company bought them out around January or so (sorry, don’t remember the other company name). This new company is currently in litigation with Bernard Callebeaut the man as, apparently, he took some of the equipment and recipes when he left, which was a no-no. Meanwhile, Bernard Callebeaut has still be making chocolate but, since I’m not really a chocolate person, I have yet to try any so have no idea if they are still as good. You will have to let me know when I’m out there.
Forbidden Chocolate?
Only if TEB drops it down the front of her shirt.

CP: So Much For The Afterglow — Everclear
CP: “Joey” – Concrete Blond
Hubby and I went for our daily walk. It’s only 20 degrees here and we’re already melting. What am I going to do once I hit Arizona’s heat?
CP: Red Alert – Warp 11
CD: Pondering if TEB protests too much about the heat in Arizona
Stay inside with me?
Go swimming in the pool with me?
Get a pedicure with me?
Drink frosty beverages with me?
I’m starting to notice a theme there
“What am I going to do once I hit Arizona’s heat?”
Flourish?
I just got a message telling me how “remarqueable” something was. Obviously their e-mail doesn’t have a spell checker.
My car’s been recalled. How amusing.
Hilarious take on Ke$ha: homeless girl on the prowl
http://www.avclub.com/articles/vol-37-february-2011,58433/
Jesus she’s beyond retarded.
Great article!
Speaking of recalls … my damn phone won’t stop “restarting”. I tried to turn it on 3 days ago and it just went into this endless startup cycle.
Gets to my home screen, goes black and then automatically starts the whole darn thing over again.
grrr.
It’s an LG VX8300 … anyone heard of a fix for this?
Here’s a last resort measure:
http://www.ehow.com/how_7372269_factory-reset-vx8300-verizon-phone.html
*sigh*
I guess I’m screwed then. That reset requires you to use the menus. I only get the main menu for about a second and a half before the phone resets and restarts.
It’s a pretty old phone. It is probably time to replace it.
Is it fair to assume you’ve already tried physically removing the battery for a few minutes? Can you boot the phone when connected to the charge cable but minus the battery?
None of the buttons are stuck, maybe making constant contact? Have you tried “the Fonz”?
One of the biggest lies–perhaps delusion is a better description–within the software industry is that code is self documenting.
Back from the store. Got something small for both Coethelia (sp?) and Rhettro and then something big for my Goddess. I better stop shopping or I won’t have room for my stuff even in the bigger suitcase.
So for those of you who may, or may not, be following my trials with this dog Santa brought us. The latest attempt at keeping her at home has failed. She broke her chainlink choke collar, jumped the fence, and is now roaming freely, we know not where.
I’m done with this dog and should she ever be found, she will be passed along to a new home.
I’m done.
Sorry to hear that Cj. That sounds pretty frustrating.
This is why I’m a cat person. I can lock them in the house forever and it doesn’t matter. (that and I don’t have to walk them when it’s 30 below and snowing outside)
I don’t believe it. I finally finished with programming on this stupid convention. I’m tired.
First day at the new place.
Stability is pri 1.
You moved? Congrats! I hope you enjoy the new place.
Yeh…. YEAH for a new place!
Woot for the new place. Will it be able to receive mail from Canada better than the old one?
Time will tell.
CP: Father Midnight — Earth
I got a mosquito bite just below my bellybutton. I am not amused
The fluff is so thick outside it almost looks like it’s snowing
No sorry, I didn’t move homes, but changed jobs. The time off between jobs was fortunately brief, but still a month-long panic attack.
Woot for the new job, then!
Yes. Let’s hope this one doesn’t blow.
What he said!!
I have strange friends. One e-mailed me about my upcoming trip “Have fun. Don’t drive the men too crazy. After all, down there they aren’t used to such excesses of feminie pulchritude in their midst.”
Pulchritude? I actually had to look that one up
A lovely word to use when you want want people to think you are insulting them as you give them a complement…
Heard on the commercial, ” made with 100% free run eggs”. I start to worry when my eggs have feet
I start to worry when my eggs give me the runs.
Or fertilised in your case.
Aren’t you the reigning “Miss Pulchritude” in Alberta?
I believe they will make her claim that at immigration.
It’s amazing that TSA will let that much Pulchritude on board the aircraft!
Which just shows you guys are just as strange as my other friends
I’m not allowed to talk to Strangers.
Where do you find strangERs, ditto?
Well, that’s exactly my point. We are the right level of strange. Any stranger and I wouldn’t want to talk to them. ;)
CW: Falling Skies. Van, still watching?
So am I Essbee, but it’s still rather slow and horribly derivative.
Oh and it still gives me Half Life flashbacks when watching it..
One of my favorite things about Summer is Vidalia onions.
Does she carry them around with her?
And now I’m off to grill pork steaks and mini-zuchinnis in the rain!
If you like Pina Coladas
And grilling pork steaks and mini-zuchinnis in the rain …
^winning!
For years I thought the guy was saying Peanut Colodas.
Volume 2 of the Portal 2 soundtrack is out:
http://www.thinkwithportals.com/music.php
Jack: Wow, only one month between jobs? That’s amazing! You’re
really luckyreally good at using those connections to have found another one so fast! Congratulations!I managed to survive work today, despite still having this con-crud cough. I did get to take on a project that I think is pretty cool, even though it may seem tedious: “Take all these invoices and retype the key data so it’s sorted into smaller categories by the type of service or activity performed. You have until the end of the day on Thursday.” I got to set up a spreadsheet with subtotal and total formulae, so I felt like I was doing Bunny’s job.
We’re still watching “Falling Skies” here in Texas. I’m interested enough to keep watching, but will see if that holds once Eureka and Wharehouse 13 fire up for the summer.
RE: Captain America score – it sounds awfully….generic. Has a vague military/marching sound to it, but I can’t really find a theme.
Hopefully the movie proves better that the music.
Jesus fucking gar.
I have been looking through my collection of cook books to get some ideas to shake things up in our recipe rotations. I am about to go through Betty Crocker’s New Dinner for Two Cook Book (1964). This was the cook book that my mother was given when she got married to ease her transition from cooking for a rather large family (11 brothers and sisters) to cooking for only two people. I have vague memories of this book having recipes for things like green beans = open can of green beans and heat on stove. Thus, I thought it would make good play by play material. So, here goes.
http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-New-Dinner-Cookbook/dp/B0007HIHVU
Well there are certainly “from scratch” recipes in here. There is one for Vanilla Custard Pudding with all the right ingredients.
Ahhh. Here we are. Crisp Vegetable Sticks (p. 10). Cut chilled raw vegetables lengthwise into thin sticks.
Italian Green Beans with Mushrooms (p.14). Cook 1 pkg (10 oz) frozen italian green beans according to pkg directions–except add 1 can (3 oz) mushrooms for the last few minutes of cooking time. Drain.
Too bad I can’t stand mushrooms.
Chilled Apricots (p.21). One can (8 oz) apricots should be just right for two. Be sure they are well chilled.
Betty, Betty, Betty… what would I do without you?
French Onion Soup (p.26). Prepare onion soup using canned soup. To serve:…
Mmmmm. Beef with Raisin Sauce. This actually looks pretty good and will probably go in the new recipe rotation.
Green Beans and Corn (p.32). Now it advises cooking fresh green beans and cutting the corn from 2 cobs. If they have already established the precedent of using canned or frozen vegetables, why change now?
Mashed Potatoes (p.36). Really? I think this book was deliberately aimed at the target audience my mother was in. Someone who is not used to cooking for only two people and simply needs to know how much of everything to use. Unfortunately, my mother claims she always fought the advice of the book, thinking that it simply wouldn’t be enough food, and often doubled or even tripled the recipes (resulting in massive quantities of leftovers).
Here’s one for all the parents out there…
Mock Champagne (p.42). Combine equal amounts of chilled apple juice and ginger ale.
Hamburger Stroganoff (p.46). Look everyone, hamburger helper was just born.
Cucumber sticks (p.52). OK, now you’re deliberately insulting my intelligence.
Dried Beef Rarebit (p.54). Looks like cream chipped beef with cheese added in. How did it never occur to me to add cheese. I MUST try this soon.
Broiled Steak (p.59). Barbarians! Steak must be grilled.
You ate going to piss off the Inuit/Swedish deapan community UH..
I read that as boiled and thus didn’t get the quip, doh!
Boiled is even worse than broiled. Do people actually do that? Do they then put the boiled steak in an aspic?
Boiling meat is a tradition in Nordic countries and among the Inuit ( when they don’t just eat the meat raw).
/shudder
Oh look. A section on how to set the table. This really is aimed at people new to the kitchen.
Grapefruit and Avacado Salad (p.74). I’ve been kind of disappointed that I haven’t seen any of the stereotypical disgusting 60s cook book items, like anything and everything in aspic. I think this one works though. Just can’t picture these two items tasting good together.
Avocado slices and canned mandarin oranges are really good together. It’s always been a favorite easy salad recipe in my family.
Old Fashioned Vegetable Soup (p.97). First ingredient = 1 beef soupbone with meat. Screw you vegetarians!
There it is! Page 101. Knew it would show up sooner or later. “1/2 tsp. flavor enhancer (monosodium glutamate)”
Just when I got my hopes up. The recipe for Corned Beef Hash (p. 104) has a big list of ingredients. I could use a recipe for that. Wait, wait, ingredient number 5 is 1 can corned beef hash. Fuckashitpiss.
aaaand, here we are. Right back at square 1 all over again. Hot Consomme (p.105). Heat 1 can undiluted beef consomme or bouillon just to the boiling point. Serves two.
And to go with the hot consomme… Toasted Crackers. You guessed it. Put some crackers in the oven.
JELLIED CHICKEN! I found it! The aspic recipe! Chicken, olives, onions, etc. all in a mold of chicken broth flavored gelatin.
Beets in Orange Sauce… pardon me… just threw up a little in my mouth.
I dont…I think.. I really…. *mind blown*
Tomato-Vegetable Aspic. OK. That’s about it for me. The rest of the book is cooking basics (because cutting cucumbers into slices isn’t basic enough).
Not to read when you are having breakfast..ugh.
Return of power catch-up
Grats on the new job Jack.
UH what was that recipe for vegetable spears again? I don’t think I understood it.
In a pinch you can swap out the recipe for vegetable sticks and cucumber spears. But only in a pinch, this isn’t every day advice.
Thank you all. Unfortunately, I have to be more careful about revealing such facts publicly. What with a few recent life changes, it looks likely that the weekly Deadpan release day will change from Wednesdays. Maybe Monday night into Tuesday.
“Jellied Chicken”????? If only the band name joke hadn’t been beaten to death. . .
Damn that’s a shame, if only for selfish reasons.
Cough
Congratulations on the new Job Jack.

This video is amazing. I was in the car while it was happening; I completely felt this haboob.

Heck no, I was just joking, hence the cough.
Who ordered the Sheesh Haboob?
I figured. But still, I’m open to suggestions.
Goodnight :haboob:

Hey Deadpan!
The neighbour brought out his Porche today. I think I’d be more impressed if it didn’t sound like guns going off every time he tried running it.
In a fist shaking minute, I really want to get some kids off my lawn. The next door neighbour has five kids (you heard me). The younger ones have started taking sticks and digging small holes in my yard and planting the sticks. I didn’t pay gross amounts of money last year to redo the yard just to have some kids dig it up.
Sigh, you are officially old now TEB, the sad decline into oblivion begins NOW.
Whenever the DP episode comes out in the next week, I think it’s safe to say there won’t be any show notes
In a few hours I’m going to print out my ticket. I’m a quiver with excitement :woot:
like this? http://www.mikesarcheryleather.com/images/side_quiver_6.jpg
Ooooh, it’s all leathery
does “all leathery” add to the quivering? :D
If done properly … YES!
I’ll have to keep that in mind after I get a girl friend… in a few months
morning pan, going here tonight:
http://www.summerfest.com
music over load!!!!
Wow that’s a lot of bands, most of whom I’ve never heard of.
lots and lots of locals there. most are ok. I like it for the people watching and ability to just walk away if a band suck on one song and come back for the next if it is a good one
I’ve heard of it. I’m jealous. :)
I wish I were a little closer. I won’t end up getting there till 6 or so and I can’t stay that late because I work tomorrow. But at least the tickets are free. Free tickets are pretty easy to come by.
You’re gonna see Morris Day and the Time!!!!!! ARENT YOU?!?!?!?!?!??!?! Bastard!
Jungle… Looooove.
they are my favorite band!
Don’t You Never Say A Bad Word About Morris Day & The Time!
Oh… happy happy day!

It was always my aspiration to be the guy whose sole purpose was to hold up a mirror onstage for Morris Day to check himself out. That’s my dream job.
I wonder what night HIS podcast comes out on?
There, it’s official. I’ve printed out my boarding pass.
I hope the Arizonians have started on my itinerary
I’m hoping to get Jack into a conversation at some point to make some plans, but you know that man is a bit elusive…
Is there a conversation going?
Step 1: Stay cool.
Step 2: See Step 1.
Rhett, I will get to see you when I’m out there?
Hopefully. :) My folks have been in town since the weekend and are destined to return home on Saturday. So I’ll be juggling time scheduled between them and the Deadpan folks. That said, any meetup Thursday/Friday night will be tough (not imposssible) for me. Likewise, breakfest/brunch on Saturday is probably out. Saturday night and Sunday morning is more open. But don’t let my schedule stop you from planning anything that works for everyone else. :)
Not yet. I’ve been busy. Um. Hey, Jack, Rhett… we need to talk… lol
Hubby just took all his 1,000+ D&D minis, packed them up and put them into storage. Why? To make room for his Warhammer stuff. *sigh*
Well, I’d like to record a Hitchhiker’s Guide discussion while you’re here, Bunny. At some point. We’ll need to discuss location and equipment.
This is ok as long as I don’t have to comment much on the newest movie. I only saw it the once and don’t remember much about it. We can’t get it on Netflix up here. The BBC series and the books are fine for me to comment on.
Oh and maybe the text adventure. I played that way back when, but only remember bits and pieces. “put towel on head” “You put the towel on your own head. The Vogon seems confused and unable to see you…”
CP: Drumming Song — Florence & The Machine
I plan on providing my thoughts about Hitchhiker’s, especially the bit about the series ending in “So Long, And Thanks For All The Fish”. Nothing after that exists, imo.
Don’t forget when Arthur learns how to fly by the simple way of walking off a very high place and not falling (I think that’s in the third book, when he’s romancing Fenchurch who’s feet don’t touch the groun”
-” +d)
Romancing Fenchurch is in ‘So Long and thanks for all the Fish’ (fourth HH book)
Arthur learns to fly in ‘Life, the Universe, and Everything’ (Third book)
The radio adaption of ‘Mostly Harmless’ changes the ending slightly and in my view it works better than the book.
LIES! No such book exists, thus there can be no such adaptation. ;)
Nice write up about the haboob by Jeff Masters.

Quick update for those playing.
Luna the dog has been missing for over 24 hours now. It isn’t looking promising. We’ve scoured the neighborhood multiples times. The fact that she broke her collar off, leaving her identifying tags with my phone number in the dirt in my backyard is making recovery seem less possible. She is however, implanted with a microchip so should someone decide to take her to the vet or animal control, we will be contacted. At which time, I’ve been making arrangements for a new home for her with someone who is home during the day as she clearly is unable to control her separation anxiety.
Sorry about your dog CJ, it’s never easy when a pet goes missing. At least you did the right thing and had Luna chipped. If anyone takes Luna to the vet you will know.
^And per your recent Twitter, I guess I was proved right. LOL
Was the dog found? We’re all on the edge of our tumbleweeds here!
Found!

CJ you lost your dog :(
I sorry
CJ tweeted that her dog was found! So all is right with the world. :)
CW: Burlesque
Why? As with most things, for a girl.
Luna the crazy 8 month old lab has been located and returned to me for a fee, of course.. so I have her at my house for the time being. A new owner is being considered as I won’t be keeping her.
I have enough “crazy” in my life right now… I don’t need a crazy dog too.
but you’d have so much to talk about.
Is this thing on?
