I’m upgrading my rig in preparation for Skyrim and Mass Effect 3. I may also pick up Battlefield 3 at some point as well.
My current rig (minus the video card that I upgraded for Dragon Age 2 a few months ago) is about 3 and a half years old. My Core 2 Duo E8400 has served me well enough, but is showing its age.
My friend let my borrow Fallout 3 to give me a taste of the gaming style to expect from Skyrim (as opposed to the more story driven style of Bioware). I finished Fallout 3 last weekend and decided that, while certainly different, Skyrim is probably a game I will enjoy. I should certainly get plenty out of it until Mass Effect 3 rolls around next March.
While I know console get all the love in the gaming world, there’s still plenty of quality gaming available for us PC folks.
Ed. This looks like it might be interesting too. Apparently the story was written by R.A. Salvatore. It doesn’t come out until the new year.

If you enjoyed Fallout 3, try it’s sequel Fallout New Vegas. I was good.
There are plenty of games I would only play on the PC, such as most Blizzard titles and intense FPS. But I certainly appreciate the casual gaming experience of sitting my couch and playing on my 57″ HDTV. The next PC game I am likely to buy is Diablo 3.
My experience of the iPhone 4S So far, doesn’t make hopeful for battery life in the long run.

I have something already written with some similarities.
Power restored on the new rig. So far, test score are impressive and “seat of the pass” response suggests a cigarette may be in order…and I don’t smoke.
Restoration of programs and data is proceeding pretty smoothly. Itunes worked without a hitch and I’m restoring my Photoshop catalog now.
Pictures and music are my two big piles of data. So, those catalogs are staying on the hard drive, while the SSD serves for the OS and actual programs.
Apple could stand to learn a thing about making the move more seamless, but I was able to find enough info and a few tricks of my own to get it to work.
Of course, it not the issue of keeping the files, it’s making sure the databases that house all the tags, playlists, counts, etc are now pointing to the new location.
Finished cleaning and washing the cars. Now it is time to make dinner and enjoy an Oaked Arrogant Bastard.

One lesson for tonight, eschew any nifty motherboard vendors custom software that claims to boost your LAN and USB speeds. My download speed was crippled with the software installed, and the USB connection was unstable.

I took my telescope out for the first time in a long time tonight. With our low humidity and cool temperatures, it made for awesome viewing conditions. I could clearly see 4 of Jupiter’s moons tonight.

So I completed “The Wire” this weekend. Possibly the best show TV has ever seen. Hype like that and a slow start to season 1 had me doubting in the beginning, but I’m so glad I stuck it out and watched all 5 seasons.
The characters, the stories, the settings – - the authenticity, the tragedy, the immersion. I’ll miss it.
